Sauniere Society Symposium

At NEWBATTLE ABBEY near Edinburgh

NEWBATTLE ABBEY INCORPORATES REMNANTS OF THE THIRTEENTH CENTURY CISTERCIAN ABBEY WHICH FORMERLY OCCUPIED THE SITE. In the sixteenth century it was rebuilt as the home of the Marquesses of Lothian and has fine examples of seventeenth century woodwork and plaster ceilings; including the magnificent 19th century Drawing Room where our meetings are held. It stands in some 125 acres of garden and woodland on the banks of the Esk, seven miles from Edinburgh and about three miles from Rosslyn Chapel.

FEES ALL prices include the use of Newbatlle Abbey facilities including the gardens and woodland. There are no hidden extras and our charges include all local taxes, coffee, breakfast, lunch, afternoon teas and dinner for the period you have booked.

ACCOMMODATION is mostly in basic student single rooms. The college has recently upgraded quite a number of rooms with full in suite facilities. These are limited in number and those requiring the better rooms should book early to avoid being disappointed.

You can also book in as a non-resident.

MEALS Are in a college self-service cafeteria which will cater for all dietary requirements, providing you let us know in advance what you need. It is essential to let us know in advance if you require lunch or dinner.

BAR For the convenience of our members a small private bar will be available for the Sainiere Society ONLY with fine whiskies and good wines and beers, etc.

ROSSYLN CHAPEL is only three miles away, joined by the Esk river and private or organised guided tours can be arranged for those so desiring.
